Ms. Alison do Carmo

¡Hola!

I am Alison do Carmo. I teach at Redwood High School in both the World Language (WL) and English Learners (EL) departments. I grew up in Southern California about one hour north of the border with Mexico in Orange County. My love for Spanish and Latino cultures was born there.

I attended UC Berkeley for my Bachelor's degree and San Francisco State University for a Master's in Secondary Education. I have been teaching Spanish and other subjects for over twenty years in Oakland, Danville, Albany, Brazil, and Pennsylvania. I am fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, speak and understand French, and am currently learning Italian. I love teaching languages because it improves communication amongst us all and promotes understanding of other cultures and ourselves. I also love teaching yoga and mindfulness because we connect with our inner wisdom and can interact with each other more mindfully and compassionately. Another fun fact about me is that I love to play music, sing and dance traditional and folkloric music/dance from Ghana, Brazil and Cuba.

I have traveled and lived for years all over the world and I love bringing both the passion to explore and the treasures of my travels to my students. I am happy to be your teacher this year and I know that together we will all learn and grow.
