Getting Ready for Advanced Algebra Students
-
Algebra Skills Survey:
Most students entering Advanced Algebra/Intermediate Algebra are coming from a Geometry course.
Success in Advanced Algebra/Intermediate Algebra has more to do with Algebra Skills than Geometry Skills.
For that reason, we, here at Tamalpais High School administer an Algebra Skills Survey. The survey assesses the skill level for the topics you see listed below. Students have multiple opportunities to demonstrate understanding on these topics and are given a recommendation based on their demonstration of understanding.
When a student scores 18 points on the diagnostic, we recommend that they take Advanced Algebra.
When a student scores less than 18 points, we recommend that they take Intermediate Algebra or Algebra 1.
These recommendations are based on the prerequisite skills needed for each class.
We want students to be successful in each and every math class they take here at Tam so we put a lot of time and effort into prividing students with this feedback.
*The attached videos are designed to help Geometry Students and incoming Advanced Algebra students review their algebra skills before starting their Advanced Algebra course. Practice Problems and answer sheets are also included so you can check your understanding of each category!
