UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA COURSE REQUIREMENTS

The University of California (UC) system has a set of minimum course requirements in order for high school students to be eligible to apply.
The following courses are required for students to be eligible to attend any University of California school.
"A-G" COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
"A" History/social science: two years (four semesters); one year of world history, culture and historical geography and
one year of US history or; one-half year of US history and one-half year of American government
"B" English: four years; four years (8 semesters) of college preparatory English composition and literature course work
"C" Mathematics: three years (6 semesters) four years is recommended; college-preparatory mathematics including
Elementary algebra, Advanced algebra and Two and three demensional geometry
"D" Laboratory science: two years (4 semesters) 3 years strongly recommended
Courses must cover fundamental knowledge in two of the following disciplines: chemistry, biology, physics
"E" Language other than English: two years (4 semesters) the equivalent of second level of high school instruction
"F" Visual & performing arts: one year (2 semesters) chosen from one of the following disciplines: dance, music,
theatre, visual arts
"G" College preparatory elective: one year ( 2 semesters) of a course approved specifically in the “G” subject area,
including courses that combine any of the “A-F” subject areas in an interdisciplinary fashion; or

- One year (2 semesters) of an additional approved “a-f” course beyond the minimum required for that subject area.of a course approved specifically in the “g” subject area, including courses that combine any of the “A-F” subject areas in an interdisciplinary fashion; or

- One year (2 semesters) of an additional approved “A-F” course beyond the minimum required for that subject area.
